Shiseido Auslese Trocken Hair Tonic Review

I’ve used Shiseido’s hair treatments before so my faith in them is stronger than ever! That said, this time I’m actually going to introduce a scalp care tonic aimed at men, the Auslese Trocken Hair Tonic. Writing about this reminds me that when my father came to Japan– he used this product all the time, so I’m really happy to introduce it here!

Let’s start with the product description!

Auslese Trocken is a medicated hair tonic that cleanses the scalp to prevent dandruff, itching, and hair loss. It keeps your scalp feeing clean and refreshed and comes in an easy grip resin bottle. ← It actually used to come in a glass bottle.
The resin bottle is really light and holds 220mL. It’s lightly scented with a “gentle green” fragrance ← To put it simply, it’s just a refreshing scent! The bottle is around the size of my hand.

The product comes wrapped in plastic. There’s no box, just the plastic, so you don’t end up with a lot of waste.

Opening the bottle

It’s not a screw top—instead, you just press down on the cap to open it, which I like.

The cap has a pin on the underside that blocks the bottle’s opening so you don’t have to worry about leaks.

Dispensing product

It’s transparent and colorless, and has a slightly sharp smell to it… in other words, a clean, masculine smell! It made the palm of my hand tingle slightly. After I wiped it off my hand felt really smooth and there was no stickiness The scent of it had staying power. → It lasted for about two hours. The tingling sensation lasted as well. → Maybe for a little over two hours as well?

As the only man in my household, I had my husband help me out on this review again.

How To Use the AUSLESE hair tonic

1. Pour an appropriate amount directly onto the scalp → My husband said two times was enough

2. Massage well into the scalp using your fingers → Make sure you’re gentle so you don’t injure your scalp!

My Husband’s Impressions

Good points

Once it dries it feels really nice and refreshing. The scent is also really fresh. You appreciate its real value in summer! I recommend using it after a bath as well.

Weak points

The bottle dispenses too much product so it drips. It might be a little too fresh feeling for winter. It could actually feel cold? It’s hard to know how well it would work with other types of styling products.

The next morning I asked my husband again his thoughts on how it felt. He said his scalp felt fresher than usual. But this time he used some hair gel, and he said that styling his hair was harder than usual. I think it’s because he didn’t wait for it to completely dry. So, I think it’s best to wait a little while for it to dry before styling your hair! ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

So…

I had a look at other reviews online, and people said that it didn’t just make their scalp feel fresher, but after using it for a while they were happy to notice they were seeing less hair loss as well.

But, a lot of people also said that the bottle dispenses too much product. I think it might be a good idea to transfer it to a different bottle. That said, it seems like my husband has got used to using it now.

My husband’s own hair is thinning, and he’s happily continuing to use it morning and night, so if I have a chance hopefully I can report back on the results on hair loss as well. I’m happy because I got to see husband looking more refreshed in the morning as well. This is me in the photo below (o^^o)
